Project Summary
The partnership between the local governments and Eco Stoves is a great initiative to improve the air quality in these markets. Below is an overview of the phases of the partnership between the Local government Markets and Eco Stoves to install smart Eco stove kitchens with inbuilt burners in the markets of Entebbe Kitoro, Arua, Lugazi, Masaka, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Wandegeya, Bukoto, Lugazi, and Yumbe. The specific details of the project will be varied depending on the specific circumstances.
Phase 1: Planning and Preparation
The local governments and Eco Stoves Uganda worked together to develop a plan for the installation of the eco stoves.
This plan included the following:
- The number of stoves to be installed in each market
- The location of the stoves
- The training that would be provided to market vendors on how to use the stoves
- The training that will be provided to market vendors should cover the following topics:
- How to use the stoves safely and efficiently
- The benefits of using eco stoves
- The environmental impact of using eco stoves
Phase 2: Installation of the Stoves
Eco Stoves Uganda installed the stoves in the markets and later provided training to market vendors on how to use the stoves.
Phase 3: Monitoring and Evaluation
The local governments and Eco Stoves Uganda will be monitoring the use of the stoves to ensure that they are being used effectively and also evaluate the impact of the project on the environment and the health of market vendors.
The plan included the following;
- The indicators that were used to measure the success of the project
- The methods that were used to collect data
- The frequency with which data was collected
- The results of the monitoring and evaluation were used to improve the project and ensure that it is meeting its goals.
An eco stove is a clean, efficient stove that uses volcanic rocks as fuel. It is designed to reduce charcoal and firewood consumption, as well as exposure to harmful smoke emissions. Eco stoves are a good alternative to traditional stoves, which can be very polluting.
Phase 4: Sustainability
The markets under local governments and Eco Stoves Uganda are working together to ensure that the eco stoves are maintained and used sustainably.
